From Compton to Alaska in the 60's: How One Young Black Woman Found Opportunity and Never Stopped Paying It Forward
Show Notes

Eleanor Andrews made a huge change.

A young wife in the 60's, she moved from her home in Compton, California to Fairbanks, Alaska and began life in the Last Frontier. She was one of a few Black women living there at the time. And though her husband died young, leaving her to face frigid  temperatures and parenting two children alone, she opened her mind to opportunity. And those opportunities never stopped coming.

Today, Eleanor is a retired businesswoman. A philanthropist. A great-grandmother. A mentor.

You will learn:

  • Having the confidence to say yes to things you've never done is critical to greenlighting opportunities.
  • Living in an rugged environment many others wouldn't brave offers less competition for jobs and other resources.
  • Paying it forward and empowering the next generation of women to be their own bosses is a sustainable way to ensure progress.

BIO: Eleanor Andrews is known in Alaska as a "civic entrepreneur" in Alaska, who inspires institutions, businesses and individuals to invest in the community.
