Imagine a time when your ability to get a raise was not based on merit, but on whether your importance to your family merited it. 

That's what Heather Flynn faced early in her career, as did countless other women who did the same work as their male counterparts but were told they would be paid less money since they weren't the head of the household.

BIO: Heather Flynn is a philanthropist and retired educator whose lengthy career began in education, and continued with her serving on the Anchorage School Board, the Anchorage Assembly, and as the Executive Director of The Alaska Women's Resource Center and Abused Women's Aid in Crisis.
